Victory! Trans human rights to finally be protected under federal laws

PSAC celebrates the news that the Senate has finally adopted Bill C-16, which will enshrine trans rights into Canadian law. Bill C-16 finally passed the Senate on June 15, after passing the House of Commons in October 2016.

“This represents a huge step forward in defense of trans peoples’ right to work in an environment where they are respected and protected against prejudice and hate,” said Robyn Benson, PSAC National President.

Membership in Good Standing

Due to a Phoenix pay system problem, members who ought to be in good standing have been rendered not in good standing because their dues have abruptly stopped (despite their continued employment). Unfortunately, it is impossible for Membership Administration to determine if dues have stopped due to a Phoenix glitch or if the member is on leave, retired, etc.

Journée des droits de la personne : mobiliser, sensibiliser, revendiquer

Le 10 décembre, Journée internationale des droits de l’homme, nous donne l’occasion de faire le bilan de l’état des droits de la personne au Canada et ailleurs dans le monde.

Bien que nous ayons fait des pas de géant, nous sommes encore loin du but. L’AFPC le sait et c’est pourquoi elle continuera à lutter pour le respect de ces droits au travail, dans nos collectivités et sur la scène internationale.

Nous enjoignons au gouvernement du Canada d’agir sans tarder pour garantir l’égalité aux femmes et la justice aux peuples autochtones.

Human rights day: mobilize, educate, speak out

December 10 is Human Rights Day – an opportunity to reflect on the status of human rights in Canada and abroad.

Although much has been accomplished, much more work still needs to be done. PSAC is committed to continuing our work regarding human rights in the workplace, in our communities, and around the world.

We are calling on the Government of Canada to take immediate action regarding specific issues that are impeding women’s equality and justice for Indigenous peoples.
