Education and Library Science (EB) group bargaining proposals

The EB group includes employees responsible for education, education support and library services. The EB bargaining team exchanged bargaining proposals with the employer last May, tabling group-specific demands that include pay and allowances, travel time, overtime, professional development, leave and hours of work and prep time.

Pay and allowances

The union will propose an economic package that takes into account several factors, including, but not limited to:

  • Real economic increases that reflect the continued strength of the Canadian economy
  • Parity with comparable jobs and employers
  • Elimination of unpopulated pay grids
  • Introduction of new allowances
  • New national rate of pay for 12 month teachers/instructors
  • Retroactivity back to the first day of the contract

The union also tabled demands to improve and expand the eligibility for allowances, to increase compensations for travel time and to provide increases to overtime pay.

Professional Development

We are proposing that the employer agree that professional development days shall be used primarily for academic initiatives rather than departmental training purposes.

Alternative work arrangements

The union proposes that employees for the ED-LAT sub-group be authorized to conduct their preparation time away from the employer’s premises. We are also tabling a new provision that will allow employees to work away from the employer’s premises.

Leave

The union is seeking improvements to leave benefits, including for family-related responsibilities, injury-on-duty, and education and career development.

Other demands

We tabled demands for improvement on maternity-related reassignment or leave and introduced a new article for whistleblower protection.
